Rick Wertz is finally doing what he likes to do. After a full career of 23 years in the steel industry, he has turned his passion into his profession. Though he worked for National Steel in metallurgical engineering and quality assurance, he was always dabbling in remodeling and restoration of older homes. He has always had a love of old architecture.

Moving to Charlevoix from Detroit in 1992 with wife Linda, Wertz began his new full time career by restoring the character of bygone eras as he transformed homes that required refurbishing. Many of his homes have received national attention in publications such as Better Homes & Gardens Remodeling Ideas and Traverse Magazine.

Rick Wertz Builder has grown substantially over the years because, as Wertz puts it, “You always do better at something when you really love what you’re doing.”
